Alfa Imaging is a company dedicated to the research, design and development of mm-wave imaging systems. It was founded in 2006 in Madrid, Spain by GATE S.A. and a group of former researchers from the mm-wave group at the University of Reading (UK) which was responsible for the design of the mm-wave scanning systems for several prestigious organizations such as QinetiQ, NASA and Smiths Detection. Alfa Imaging shares development and small-scale manufacturing facilities with GATE. Alfa holds several international patents and has focused on the development of a series of passive mm-wave cameras operating at stand-off distances.
Alfa also has a number of study and development contracts with the Spanish Government, Ministry of Defense and the NATO C3 Agency in the field of mm-wave imaging. Alfa Imaging represents the Spanish Industry in two NATO SET working groups in the field, in addition to the EDA THz group. Alfa Imaging has attended various real-life demonstrations, and demonstrated their equipment at Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan in November 2010 under invitation from NATO.
